Travel Grants

Awardees will have conference travel-related costs for DSCO 2023 reimbursed for attendance at the conference March 12, 2023 - March 14, 2023. Travel and lodging awards may range from $200-$900 dollars per applicant.

To be eligible for a fellowship you must meet the following criteria:

  1. be a graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, or early career (i.e., first five years after finishing graduate school) researcher in data science or an adjacent field (e.g., mathematics, statistics, computer science, etc.);

  2. have a permanent United States address and bank account to which funds can be deposited from a bank in California; and

  3. participate in selected mentor-mentee activities during the conference.

The travel fellowship funds can be used to reimburse several categories of expenses:

  1. airfare at the coach rate or mileage up to the cost of a flight;

  2. car rental at the economy or compact rate;

  3. ground transportation fare; and

  4. lodging if reserved in your name.*

*Note: for shared lodging, the reimbursement amount will be split by the number of individuals on the reservation.

You may apply for fellowship support with or without being a speaker or poster presenter at the conference.

The deadline for fellowship applications is January 31, 2023, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting February 1, 2023.

You will need to provide paper copies or scans of the original receipts for all expenses that you would like to have reimbursed by March 31, 2023.

Please direct any questions regarding reimbursement to Elisabeth Merkel at dsco@datascience.usfca.edu.

To make DSCO 2023 accessible to students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career researchers and data scientists who may have difficulty covering travel expenses, we are proud to offer a limited number of fellowships for travel and lodging for eligible applicants.
