DSCO 2023
The Data Science Conference
The Data Science Conference (DSCO) is hosted by the Data Institute at the University of San Francisco (USF) at its campus in the Financial District of downtown San Francisco.
DSCO brings together academics, practitioners, and students from a wide array of organizations to learn about developments in the field and applications in areas such as the environment, data ethics, marketing, healthcare, and more.
Originally held in 2017, and again in 2019, DSCO was canceled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Data Institute faculty and staff are excited to once again host the conference – DSCO 2023 – and hope that you will join us to learn from and network with thought-leaders from academia and industry who are actively contributing to the spectrum of data science research and practice.
The Data Institute
Established in 2016, the Data Institute at the University of San Francisco serves as the umbrella organization for data science research and programming at USF.
The Data Institute offers the Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) program, the Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BSDS) program, and professional certificate programs. Every year, it hosts interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellows and data ethics fellows and is home to initiatives focused on the environmental and social impact, the Artificial Intelligence & Medicine (formerly the Wicklow AI Medical Research Initiative (WAMRI)), and the Center for Applied Data Ethics (CADE).
The MSDS and the BSDS programs, with the support of the Data Institute, are interdisciplinary degree programs with a diverse and growing community of full-time faculty members from data science, mathematics, statistics, health informatics, and computer science.
The mission of the Data Institute is to:
Foster
new partnerships between industry and academia to tackle real-world data science and machine learning problems
Build
an inclusive community of data scientists to advance research in data science and machine learning
Create
innovative curricula to support the training of the next generation of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and data engineers
Partner
with for-profit, nonprofit, and civic organizations to seek data-driven solutions to address pressing social, economic and environmental challenges
Scientific Program Committee
The role of the Scientific Program Committee is to plan, direct, and supervise the DSCO 2023 scientific program, develop the overall DSCO program, review the proposed short courses and plenary sessions, and suggest and help implement ways to increase the DSCO appeal to particular groups such as researchers and practitioners in the data science and machine learning space. The committee provides continuous feedback throughout the DSCO planning cycle, assists in the review of submitted abstracts, and develops the selection process for DSCO special lectures.
